Laffy Punts

I just listened to 40 painful minutes of the Republican Primary debate between liberal Sen. Lincoln Chafee and his opponent Stephen Laffy on C-SPAN.

And painful it was because while Chafee left so many opportunities for Laffy, the better Republican failed to go in for the kill. Laffy kept acting like he was in a general election debating a liberal Democrat instead of a Republican primary.

And if Laffy thought he was in a general election debate, Chaffe thought he was in a Democrat primary. He actually called the 9-11 attack, “mayhem”.

Mayhem! A food-fight between rival kindergarten classes in the cafeteria is mayhem. On September 11, 2001, nearly 3000 random souls were cruelly murdered by Muslim crazies. Some of our fellow Americans not only died but suffered unimaginable pain and white-hot terror before their lives were ended. And the Senator from Rhode Island characterizes it as “mayhem”. That flippant remark alone should lose him the race even if it WAS a Democrat primary.

Chaffee said he would not favor the death penalty even for Osama bin Laden because Chaffee thinks that he might not be guilty. If you think I am taking him out of context than you didn’t see the debate. I would never make something that ludicrous up. The fool kept going on about how some mob hundreds of years ago lynched some poor sap. Never mind that OBL claimed credit for the attack on video tape and doubt about his crimes only exists in the mind of this traitorous RINO.

And for Laffy not to pounce on that one is just unforgivable.

Then there was this insufferable “church and state” crap. I mean the man seems to think that its government’s job to literally wipe out every trace of religion of in the public square.

If RI fails to nominate Laffy than that state’s GOP is as dead as Connecticut’s.

QUOTE OF THE DAY

"Democracy will not easily take root in that rocky soil, but the Iraqis and Afghans who proudly display their ink-stained fingers are a rebuke to those who sniff that it's a fool's errand"

Democrats freed the slaves!

Since the "Seminole County Democrats" probably won't post my comments on their blog (they have to approve them first), I have put them here for your amusement. I am not sure where Seminole County is exactly. Maybe Florida. That sounds right but liberals are liberals where ever they are and keep making the same foolish mistakes.

This is a supposed "Fourth of July message". My response -- which you can only see here -- will appear after theirs.

Fourth of July Message for my fellow Democrats.

Patriotism is the love of one’s country, not a weapon to be used to beat dissenters into submission. Democrats wrote the book on patriotism. The greatest accomplishments of the past century are Democratic achievements: the recovery out of the Great Depression, the victory of WWII, great programs such as Social Security and Medicare, the fight for civil-rights, the Space Program (PS: Godspeed Discovery), the ability to balance the budget and reduce massive deficits, and always, ensuring that the backbone of this nation, the working class families of America, have a voice.

A former Dem chariman said: “The common thread of Democratic history, from Thomas Jefferson to Bill Clinton, has been an abiding faith in the judgment of hardworking American families, and a commitment to helping the excluded, the disenfranchised and the poor strengthen our nation by earning themselves a piece of the American Dream. We remember that this great land was sculpted by immigrants and slaves, their children and grandchildren."Ironic, then, that our enemies of fear and smear have tried so hard to attack our patriotism and claim their narrow views alone define patriotism and faith.

Worse yet, is the wrongful success that they have had in this attack, especially in red counties like Seminole. The following is the first blog I ever wrote, entitled Reclaim our Victory by Reclaiming our Values. I discuss specifically the values of faith and patriotism and STRONG points of argument you can use against the GOP’s disingenious claims, and more importantly, how to fight back.

Happy Fourth of July, Everyone!

John Responds: My advice for next year's July 4th entry is that you should leave aside the partisan bicker and just say something nice about the United States and how Wonderful it is to be an American. It might come off as more sincere than just using it as another excuse to bash Bush. Then maybe no one will actually wonder about your patriotism.

But since you mentioned this grand list, let me comment on it. As you say the "Greatest accomplishments of the last century are Democratic achievements". Well, lets take those one by one; shall we?

1, "The recovery out of the Great Depression", -- Actually the depression was extended further than it otherwise would have lasted because of the social and tax policies of the Roosevelt Administration that discouraged profitable work.

The victory of WWII -- I have it on good authority that "All gave some and some gave all" which includes even some Republicans.

"Great programs such as Social Security and Medicare" -- OK, you invented them but you won't let Republicans save them and are dooming them to eventual financial failure seemingly only so you can get back in office. That doesn't seem very patriotic to me.

"The fight for civil-rights -- Actually more Republians voted for the 1964 Civil Rights Act than Democrats. (You guys forget that factoid A LOT you know.)

From Wikipedia: "Republican Senate Minority Leader Everett Dirksen pushed the [1964 Civil Rights Act ] through Congress. The bill divided both political parties and engendered a long-term change in the demographics of both. President Johnson realized that supporting this bill would mean losing the South's overwhelming Democratic Party majority (which did happen, with some exceptions).

This is the important part ---> Although they were a minority party in both houses of Congress, Republicans voted overwhelmingly in favour of the Act, enabling its passage."

"The Space Program (PS: Godspeed Discovery)" -- OK I will give you that one. JFK put a man on the moon and no one else helped.

"the ability to balance the budget and reduce massive deficits" -- The Republicans ballanced the budget in the 1990's; not the Clintons.

All budget bills MUST originate in the House of Representatives where you may have forgotten was and still is in Republican hands. I wonder how many Democrat congressmen voted for those ballanced budgets that you credit the Democrats for ?

Hummmmm??? All Clinton did was negotiate to spend more and tax more before he would finally sign his name.

"and always, ensuring that the backbone of this nation, the working class families of America, have a voice"

-- OK; that just makes me wanna hurl....

And one final note: Republicans freed the slaves, not Democrats.

Dangerous Words

I came accross this on-line petition which is telling of how badly the liberals have been whipped. Liberals can no longer compete in the arena of competing ideas and are resorting to censorship.

This is how it reads: http://mediamatters.org/hatefree

"Hate has no place on the airwaves. Recently, the major television networks have given a platform to conservative hate merchants like Ann Coulter, Glenn Beck, and Melanie Morgan.

Coulter's column is distributed by Universal Press Syndicate, one of the country's largest syndicates. Beck was recently hired by CNN Headline News. Morgan broadcasts from a radio station owned by Disney. And all three -- and countless others like them -- are regularly given guest spots on cable-news networks.

The fact that these right-wing pundits -- who have called for the execution of public officials and others -- are given a platform in the major media is unprecedented.

We, the undersigned, urge the media to stop allowing these hate merchants to spread their venom and abuse. America deserves to hear honest, reasoned debate, not rants from professional hatemongers."

Oh really now! So in the name of stopping hate we are going to silence all opinions Media Matters can't find arguments against. I guess the First Amendment doesn't apply to hatemongers.
