Jeane Kirkpatrick 1926 – 2006

I have just learned that former U.N. Ambassador, noted conservative writer , lecturer, Cold War Warrior, and Great American Jeane Kirkpatrick passed away in 2006 -- two years ago. I must have skipped reading the paper that day.

I always admired her skillful brain and her blunt tongue that positively bleed truisms. I recall one that always gives me pause when I am pondering whether to do something or not. She said it never occurs to some politicians to do nothing when often times that’s the wisest policy.

I was going to name her as a possible lecturer for Eastern Connecticut State University where they have been parading one liberal speaker after another all the while claiming to expose students to diverse viewpoints. I checked with Wikipedia.com to make sure she was still alive and alas she is not. She died of heart failure at her home around Christmas time. It is doubly sad that one of her sons died shortly before she did in that same year.

The last Eastern speaker I was fired up about was Abortion Cheerleader and Catholic-Basher Denise Merrill who represents Stoors in the Connecticut State House of Representatives (a.k.s The Soviet Union).

By diverse Eastern really means Left and Far Left.

President George W. Bush said of her passing “She defended the cause of freedom at a pivotal time in world history, and her courageous service as our United Nations Ambassador inspired her fellow Americans and lovers of liberty around the world. Jeane's powerful intellect helped America win the Cold War."

I recall with a chuckle that Kirkpatrick liken W’s father to a fish whose head rots first.
Some of her better quotes:

"What takes place in the Security Council more closely resembles a mugging than either a political debate or an effort at problem-solving."

"When Marxist dictators shoot their way into power in Central America, the San Francisco Democrats don't blame the guerrillas and their Soviet allies. They blame United States policies of 100 years ago. But then they always Blame America First."

"Russia is playing chess, while we are playing Monopoly. The only question is whether they will checkmate us before we bankrupt them."

As my Dad would say, she was one stand up broad. Mrs. Kirkpatrick was awarded the Presidential Metal of Freedom in 1985 and my humble and grateful salute on this day.

Jeanne Kirkpatrick died?! I didn't know that either. I guess we were both under the same rock on that day, little brother. Thanks for your moving salute to America's Iron Lady.

Rest in peace, Mrs. Kirkpatrick.
